Caribou State Correctional Paths

A Caribou County defendant committed to IDOC enters a statewide correctional case. The person may wait at Caribou County Jail under a contract arrangement, but the state sentence does not become a county sentence. Departure from that jail for an IDOC institution is a transfer. It is not proof of release into the community. The public detail record can identify a physical correctional location while the person is confined, then show a supervising district after an approved release.

IDOC operates prisons and community reentry centers across Idaho. No state prison was identified in Caribou County. Consequently, the name of a distant institution does not make the case unrelated to Caribou County. Sentencing county and case number connect the state record to the local prosecution. When custody ends, a client may be released to parole, placed under probation, or reach sentence satisfaction. A later transfer to another legal custodian can also end one IDOC location without ending custody.

Confirm an IDOC Release

The IDOC Resident/Client Search is the primary public route. It accepts last name, first name, or IDOC number. Name matching may return several people, so compare age, offenses, sentencing county, and case number before treating a detail page as a match. IDOC warns that its public information is updated daily. A recent movement can therefore reach the page after the actual event.

1. Search by IDOC number when known, or use the full legal name and possible variants.
2. Open the matching detail record and read the overall “In custody” or “In community” status.
3. Review physical location, sentence status, Released to Supervision, and Sentence Satisfaction Date.
4. If the person is in community, record the listed district, officer, office, and telephone number.
5. Request the underlying IDOC record when the public fields do not resolve the date or legal event.

“In community” can mean the person remains under state control through parole or probation. “Released to Supervision” marks movement from confinement to community supervision; it does not mean the sentence is complete. A Sentence Satisfaction Date relates to completion of a sentence and must not be mistaken for a projected prison exit date. IDOC Records and Contact

Public detail fields are a useful index, not the complete correctional file. When dates conflict or a historical detail has aged out, use IDOC Records Information and the agency's JustFOIA request route. Identify the person, IDOC number, sentencing county, case number, and date range. Ask specifically for the sentencing calculation, release or discharge date, parole release documentation, satisfaction date, and the record supporting a correction to the public result.

Idaho public-record response and fee rules depend partly on requester residence and request size. Ask for an electronic copy and an advance estimate. Some correctional, medical, victim, safety, juvenile, sealed, or investigatory information may be withheld or redacted. A lawful restriction on part of the file does not turn a public status field into proof of a different outcome. IDOC Custody and Community Status

IDOC's network serves sentenced state cases and supervised clients. A prison, county contract bed, community reentry center, and probation or parole office perform different roles. A prison or contract jail holds a person. A community reentry center is still an IDOC placement with rules and custody implications. A probation and parole office manages reporting in the community and is not a jail or residence.

For Caribou County, District 6 and its Soda Springs satellite are the local supervision layer. The live detail page controls the assignment. Do not infer a Soda Springs assignment only from residence or sentencing county.

IDOC Transfer Versus State Release

Caribou County Jail houses contract prisoners for IDOC. That local fact creates an important sequence: county building, state institution or reentry placement, then possible community supervision. The first move is a transfer even though the person leaves the county jail. Ask the jail for its destination field, then use IDOC to follow the state case. A public status that still says “In custody” resolves the point.

A true state release can follow a parole decision, sentence calculation, or other lawful authority. Parole is conditional community release before the sentence ends. Probation is court-ordered community supervision and can appear in IDOC's client system. Discharge means the correctional obligation has ended. Each term answers a different question, so preserve the exact label and date.

Note: A change of IDOC location is not by itself a release into the community.

IDOC Dates, Parole, and VINE

An in-custody detail may show a Parole Eligibility Date. Eligibility permits consideration; it is not a promise of release. The Commission hearing schedule and decision notices add hearing and action context. The Commission warns that parole dates are tentative. Conditions, calculations, detainers, rescission, or later action can prevent the planned physical exit.

Document an IDOC Discharge

Build a clean timeline from the judgment, IDOC status, parole action, supervision record, and sentence satisfaction field. The court judgment supplies the sentence. IDOC calculates and administers it. The Commission makes parole decisions where authorized. A supervising office documents community compliance. These sources can describe successive events without conflict.

For durable proof, retain the IDOC number, exact field labels, displayed dates, sentencing county, case number, and date accessed. Then request the record behind any unclear entry. A missing public result does not establish that no state case existed. Name variation, older data, access limits, daily refresh, or record relief can affect what appears.
